# Open a private window

> Start a private or incognito browsing session from the same Dock panel.

## Launch private browsing

1. **Hover over a supported browser.** Open the DockSpark panel from the browser's Dock icon.
2. **Choose the private action.** Select the private or incognito entry from the same profile list.
3. **Approve Automation if asked.** macOS may request consent the first time a browser action needs it.

## What stays separate

The browser—not DockSpark—controls private browsing behavior, including history, cookies, extensions, and sign-in rules. DockSpark only provides the shortcut that asks the browser to open the private window. Safari uses a private window, Firefox uses global Private Browsing, and supported Chromium-based browsers use their incognito or private-window action.
